Sims 4 age and death cheats
Updated PC, Mac, Xbox, PlayStation
There is no command that sets a Sim's age. To change a life stage, enter testingcheats true and then cas.fulleditmode, shift-click the Sim and choose Modify in CAS. For death, death.toggle is the on and off switch, and traits.equip_trait followed by a ghost trait turns a Sim into a ghost of whichever death you pick.
Resurrection is the same trait coming off again. Two commands you will see quoted elsewhere, sims.Set_Age and aging.toggle, are not part of this game, and this page says where the working alternatives are instead.

Turn cheats on first
Unlike money and Build mode, nothing on this page works until the master switch is on.
Open the console with Ctrl + Shift + C on Windows, the same shortcut or Command + Shift + C on Mac, or by holding all four shoulder buttons on PlayStation and Xbox. Type testingcheats true and press Enter.
That switch is what makes the traits., sims. and stats. commands below work, and it is also what puts Modify in CAS in the shift-click menu. The full walkthrough, including the console button combinations, is on the page on enabling cheats.
Most commands here act on the Sim you currently have selected, so click the right Sim before you type.
Every age and death cheat
Cheat codes are not case sensitive. The capitals below follow the sources, so you can match them against other guides.
Change a Sim to another age
There is no command that sets a life stage directly. Both routes below go through Create a Sim or the shift-click menu.
| Command | What it does | Notes | Copy |
|---|---|---|---|
Commandcas.fulleditmode | What it doesUnlocks every field in Create a Sim, including the age selector, for any Sim you open afterwards. | NotesNeeds testingcheats true. The console prints nothing when you enter it. Follow it with a shift-click on the Sim and choose Modify in CAS, then pick the life stage you want. PC, Mac, Xbox, PlayStation. | |
CommandShift-click a Sim, then Age Up | What it doesAges that Sim up by one life stage, in place, with no trip through Create a Sim. | NotesNeeds testingcheats true. One stage per click and it only goes forward. To go backwards, use cas.fulleditmode. On PlayStation hold Circle and press X; on Xbox hold B and press A. PC, Mac, Xbox, PlayStation. |
Switch death off
One toggle, and a moodlet clear that can pull a Sim out of a death that has already started.
| Command | What it does | Notes | Copy |
|---|---|---|---|
Commanddeath.toggle true | What it doesOne half of the toggle EA documents as enabling and disabling death. | NotesNeeds testingcheats true. The guides disagree about which value does which. EA prints the pair without saying; PC Gamer describes the command as the way to save your Sims from death, and SnootySims describes it as the way to turn death off. Enter one value, test it on a Sim you do not mind losing, and use the other if you guessed wrong. PC, Mac, Xbox, PlayStation. | |
Commanddeath.toggle false | What it doesThe other half of the same toggle. | NotesNeeds testingcheats true. See the note above. Which of the two switches death off is not settled by the sources. PC, Mac, Xbox, PlayStation. | |
Commandsims.remove_all_buffs | What it doesClears every moodlet on the selected Sim and returns them to a neutral mood, which cancels a death that an emotion is in the middle of causing. | NotesNeeds testingcheats true. This is the emergency brake for death by hysteria, embarrassment, anger and the other emotional deaths. It also wipes the moodlets you wanted to keep. PC, Mac, Xbox, PlayStation. |
Ghost traits, base game
Equip one of these and the Sim becomes a ghost of that death type. Remove the same trait and they come back alive.
| Command | What it does | Notes | Copy |
|---|---|---|---|
Commandtraits.equip_trait anger | What it doesGhost, death by anger. | NotesNeeds testingcheats true. | |

Commandtraits.equip_trait ghost_cowplant | What it doesGhost, eaten by a Cowplant. | NotesNeeds testingcheats true. |
Ghost traits added by packs
Each of these needs the pack that added the death. Without the pack the command is rejected.

Commandtraits.equip_trait trait_Ghost_SecretPassageway | What it doesGhost, death by a malfunctioning cuckoo clock. | NotesNeeds testingcheats true. Royalty & Legacy only. The newest death in the game. In normal play it comes from the Secret Passageway object added in 2026. |
Buffs and stats that cause a death
These push a living Sim toward a death rather than turning them straight into a ghost, so you get the animation and the urn.
| Command | What it does | Notes | Copy |
|---|---|---|---|
Commandsims.add_buff Buff_Hysterical | What it doesPushes the selected Sim toward death by laughter. | NotesNeeds testingcheats true. | |
Commandsims.add_buff Buff_Mortified | What it doesPushes the selected Sim toward death by embarrassment. | NotesNeeds testingcheats true. | |
Commandsims.add_buff Ghostly | What it doesMakes a living Sim a ghost for a few hours, then wears off on its own. | NotesNeeds testingcheats true. A temporary state, not a death. Nothing to undo. | |
Commandstats.set_stat commodity_Vampire_SunExposure -100 | What it doesEmpties a vampire's sun exposure meter, which kills them on the spot. | NotesNeeds testingcheats true. Vampires only. | |
Commandsims.add_buff BurningLove | What it doesReported to give a Sim a high chance of starting fires for a few hours. | NotesNeeds testingcheats true. Only one of the guides checked for this page lists it, and the same goes for stats.set_stat commodity_Buff_BurningLove_StartFire 7 and the fire.toggle on and fire.toggle off pair. Treat all three as unconfirmed. |
Bring a Sim back
There is no resurrect command. Resurrection is the ghost trait coming off again.
| Command | What it does | Notes | Copy |
|---|---|---|---|
Commandtraits.remove_trait <ghost trait> | What it doesRemoves the ghost trait and returns the Sim to life. Use the same trait name you equipped, or the one matching how they died. | NotesNeeds testingcheats true. Select the ghost first. If you are not sure which death type they carry, open them in Create a Sim with cas.fulleditmode and look. PC, Mac, Xbox, PlayStation. | |
Commandsims.get_sim_id_by_name <FirstName> <LastName> | What it doesPrints the numeric identifier of a Sim, a pet or a horse, which the pet commands need. | NotesNeeds testingcheats true. | |
Commandtraits.equip_trait Ghost_OldAge <PetID> | What it doesTurns the pet with that identifier into a ghost. | NotesNeeds testingcheats true. Cats & Dogs only. Get the identifier from sims.get_sim_id_by_name first. | |
Commandtraits.remove_trait Ghost_OldAge <PetID> | What it doesBrings that pet back to life. | NotesNeeds testingcheats true. Cats & Dogs only. PC Gamer words this one as something you should also be able to do rather than as a confirmed result, so test it on a save you have backed up. |

Aging a Sim up or down
Two routes, and the one you pick depends on which direction you are going.
Forward, one stage at a time. With cheats on, shift-click the Sim and choose Age Up. On PlayStation hold Circle and press X; on Xbox hold B and press A. It is quick, it needs no second command, and it only goes forward.
Any direction, any stage. Enter cas.fulleditmode. The console prints nothing in reply, which makes people think it failed. Then shift-click the Sim, choose Modify in CAS, and the age selector is unlocked along with every other field. Pick the life stage, confirm, and the Sim comes out of Create a Sim at that age.
Full edit mode is also how you change a Sim's name, traits, aspiration and appearance in one pass, so it is worth knowing for reasons that have nothing to do with age. The trait codes that do the same job from the console are on the Sims 4 trait cheats page.
There is no aging command
Plenty of guides print aging.toggle, aging on or aging off. Those are Sims 3 commands. No current source documents any of them working in The Sims 4, and typing them does nothing.
Aging is a game setting instead. Open Game Options, go to Gameplay, and use Auto Age. You can switch aging off for played Sims, for unplayed Sims, or for both, and the setting applies to the save rather than to one Sim.
sims.Set_Age belongs in the same paragraph. It is widely quoted and appears in none of the sources checked for this page, including EA's own cheats documentation. Use Create a Sim or the shift-click Age Up option instead.
Switching death off
death.toggle true and death.toggle false are a pair. EA documents the command as enabling and disabling death and does not say which value means which, and the guides that repeat it disagree: PC Gamer treats it as the way to save Sims from death entirely, SnootySims as the way to turn death off.
So test it. Enter one value on a save you have just backed up, then push a Sim toward a death you can trigger on demand, and see what happens. Whichever value protected them is the one to remember.
For a death already in progress there is a faster answer: sims.remove_all_buffs clears every moodlet on the selected Sim and drops them back to a neutral mood. Death by laughter, embarrassment, anger and the other emotional deaths all come from moodlets, so clearing the moodlets ends the countdown. The cost is that it clears the good ones too.
Making a Sim a ghost of a chosen death
Every death type in the game has a ghost trait. Select the Sim, enter traits.equip_trait and the trait name, and they become a ghost who died that way.
traits.equip_trait drown gives you a Sim who drowned. traits.equip_trait oldage gives you one who died of old age. The full list, base game and pack by pack, is in the table above.
There is a second route worth knowing. A recent patch added ghost death types directly to Create a Sim, so with cas.fulleditmode active you can shift-click a Sim, choose Modify in CAS, and pick a death type from the interface rather than typing a trait name. That is easier to undo if you change your mind.
Pack deaths need their pack. Ghost_Lightning and Ghost_Frozen need Seasons, Vampire_Sun needs Vampires, and trait_Ghost_SecretPassageway, the cuckoo clock death added in 2026, needs Royalty & Legacy. Without the pack the command is rejected.
One gap: Enchanted by Nature adds Death by Emotional Overload for fairies, and PC Gamer states there is no cheat for it. You have to trigger it in play, by letting a fairy absorb Overload moodlets until Enraged, Hysterical or Mortified fires.
Killing a Sim on purpose
Equipping a ghost trait skips straight to the result. If you want the death itself, with the animation, the Grim Reaper and the urn, use a buff instead.
sims.add_buff Buff_Hysterical pushes a Sim toward death by laughter, and sims.add_buff Buff_Mortified toward death by embarrassment. Vampires have their own route: stats.set_stat commodity_Vampire_SunExposure -100 empties the sun exposure meter and kills them on the spot.
sims.add_buff Ghostly is the harmless one. It makes a living Sim a ghost for a few hours and then wears off by itself, with nothing to undo.
A few fire-related commands circulate for this, sims.add_buff BurningLove among them. Only one of the guides checked for this page lists them, so they are in the table with that caution attached rather than presented as reliable.
Bringing a Sim back
There is no resurrect command. Resurrection is the ghost trait coming off: traits.remove_trait oldage brings back a Sim who died of old age, and the same pattern works for every other death type. Select the ghost first, and use the trait that matches how they died.
If you are not sure which one they carry, open them with cas.fulleditmode and Modify in CAS and look at the death type listed there.
Any command elsewhere that claims to be a dedicated resurrection cheat is worth checking carefully. None of the sources behind this page document one.
Pet ghosts and pet resurrection
Pets take the same commands with an extra argument, because you cannot select a pet the way you select a Sim. Run sims.get_sim_id_by_name followed by the pet's first and last name, and the console prints a long number. That number is the pet's identifier.
Then traits.equip_trait Ghost_OldAge followed by the identifier turns the pet into a ghost, and traits.remove_trait Ghost_OldAge followed by the identifier brings it back. PC Gamer words the resurrection half as something you should also be able to do rather than as a confirmed result, so try it on a save you have backed up.
Xbox, PlayStation and achievements
All of these commands work on Xbox and PlayStation. Open the console by holding RB, RT, LB and LT together on Xbox, or R1, R2, L1 and L2 on PlayStation. Shift-click becomes Circle plus X on PlayStation and B plus A on Xbox.
What the UI Cheats Extension does here
The UI Cheats Extension is a free Live mode mod by weerbesu for PC and Mac. On this topic it covers exactly one thing, and covers it better than the console does.
Age. Right-click the age progress bar in the Simology panel and you can add or subtract days spent at the current life stage, or change the total number of days the Sim has lived. The console has nothing equivalent: cas.fulleditmode moves a Sim between whole life stages, and that is all it does.
Death. Not covered. Killing a Sim, setting a death type and resetting a Sim are all absent from the mod's documented feature list, so the commands above stay the only route. With Life & Death installed the mod can right-click a ghost XP progress bar to set a ghost rank and set the Soul's Journey meter, but that is a ghost's progression, not the death itself.
The rest of what it covers, panel by panel, is on the UI Cheats feature list. If you have not got it running yet, the installation guide covers both files and the two Game Options toggles.
If these cheats do nothing
- Check the master switch. Every command here needs
testingcheats true. If you are not certain it is still on, shift-click a Sim and look for the cheat menu, or simply enter it again. - Check you selected the right Sim.
traits.equip_trait,sims.add_buffandsims.remove_all_buffsact on the Sim you currently have selected, not on the one you are looking at. - Check the pack. A ghost trait from a pack you do not own is rejected without a useful message.
- Check for a typed space. A space ends the argument, so a trait name split across two words cannot work. Type the name exactly as the table prints it.
- Expect no confirmation.
cas.fulleditmodeprints nothing at all. Test it by shift-clicking a Sim and looking for Modify in CAS.
If the console will not open, or commands are being rejected across the board, work through the fixes for Sims 4 cheats not working. For the mod rather than the console, see the UI Cheats troubleshooting guide.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make my Sim younger?
Enter testingcheats true, then cas.fulleditmode. Shift-click the Sim, choose Modify in CAS, and pick the life stage you want from the age selector. That is the only route that goes backwards. The shift-click Age Up option only moves forward, one stage at a time.
Is there an aging cheat like aging.toggle?
No. aging.toggle, aging on and aging off are Sims 3 commands, and no current source documents them working in The Sims 4. Aging is a setting rather than a cheat: Game Options, then Gameplay, then Auto Age, where you can switch it off for played Sims, unplayed Sims or both. sims.Set_Age is in the same category and is best avoided.
How do I add or remove days from a life stage?
The console has no command for that. The UI Cheats Extension does: right-click the age progress bar in the Simology panel and you can add or subtract days spent at the current life stage, or change the total number of days the Sim has lived. It is a PC and Mac mod, so console players are limited to full life stage changes through Create a Sim.
What does death.toggle do?
EA documents death.toggle as a true or false pair that enables and disables death, without saying which value is which. PC Gamer describes it as the way to save Sims from death; SnootySims describes it as the way to turn death off. Pick a value, test it on a Sim you can afford to lose, and switch to the other if you guessed wrong.
How do I turn a Sim into a ghost?
Select the Sim, then enter traits.equip_trait followed by the ghost trait for the death you want, for example traits.equip_trait drown or traits.equip_trait oldage. A recent patch also added ghost death types directly to Create a Sim, so with cas.fulleditmode on you can pick one there instead.
How do I resurrect a Sim?
Remove the ghost trait they are carrying: traits.remove_trait followed by the same trait name, for example traits.remove_trait oldage. There is no separate resurrect command in any of the sources behind this page, so treat any command claiming to be one with suspicion.
What is the cuckoo clock death?
Death by a malfunctioning cuckoo clock arrived with the Royalty & Legacy expansion in 2026, caused in normal play by the new Secret Passageway object. Its ghost trait is trait_Ghost_SecretPassageway, and you need the pack for the command to work.
Can I stop a death that is already happening?
For the emotional deaths, yes. sims.remove_all_buffs clears every moodlet on the selected Sim and returns them to a neutral mood, which takes away the hysteria, mortification or anger that is killing them. It also clears the moodlets you wanted to keep, so it is a blunt instrument.
Does the UI Cheats Extension have a death cheat?
No. Killing a Sim and setting a death type are both absent from the mod's feature list, and so is resetting a Sim. It handles the age progress bar and, with Life & Death installed, ghost ranks and the Soul's Journey meter, but the console commands remain the only way to cause or undo a death.
