Installing UI Cheats on a Mac
Updated Checked against UI Cheats v1.59.1About 5 minutes
UI Cheats works on a Mac, and the install is the same one Windows players do. Download the zip from weerbesu's Patreon post, unzip it in Finder, put both files in /Users/<YourUsername>/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods, switch on Enable Custom Content and Mods and Script Mods Allowed in Game Options, and restart the game.
There is no separate Mac build and no extra permission step that any source we could check documents. The parts that genuinely differ are the folder path, the way Finder handles the zip, and which keys open the cheat console.

Does UI Cheats work on a Mac?
Yes. The mod runs on PC and Mac, and guides that cover both platforms describe an identical process: the same files, the same Mods folder under Documents, the same two settings.
That is because The Sims 4 loads mods from your user data folder rather than from wherever the game itself is installed, so the launcher and the operating system change nothing about where the files go.
What does matter on any platform is the version. v1.59.1, released 27 August 2026, is built for game version 1.127.41 and will not work on older versions of the game. Let the EA app or Steam finish updating before you install.
Where the Mods folder lives on macOS
The full path, with your own user name in place of the angle brackets, is:
/Users/<YourUsername>/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods
In Finder, the fastest route is Go > Go to Folder (Shift-Command-G), then paste ~/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods. The tilde stands for your home folder, so you do not have to type your user name at all.
If the folder is not there, the game creates it the first time you launch with mods enabled. You can also create it by hand, spelled exactly like that, inside The Sims 4.
Steam players on a Mac: the Mods folder is still the one in Documents. Files placed in the Steam install directory are ignored.
Installing UI Cheats on macOS
- 1
Download the zip in your browser
Open weerbesu's post, UI Cheats Extension v1.59.1 on Patreon, and scroll to the attachment at the bottom. The file is
UI_Cheats_Extension_v1.59.1.zip, about 15 MB, and it lands in your Downloads folder. There is one download for both platforms. You are not looking for a separate Mac build.
- 2
Unzip it in Finder
Double-click the zip in Finder. macOS expands it into a folder next to the archive, and Safari may have expanded it for you already if "Open safe files after downloading" is switched on, in which case you will find the folder rather than the zip.
Inside are two files: a package file and a script file. Guides that have opened the archive name them
UI_Cheats_Extension.packageandUI_Cheats_Extension_Scripts.ts4script; the author's post calls them only "the package file and the script file". Move the files, never the zip. The game does not read archives. - 3
Open the Mods folder and drop both files in
In Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder, paste
~/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Modsand press Return. Drag both files in.A single subfolder is fine, for example
Mods > UI Cheats Extension, but the script file must sit no more than one subfolder deep or the game will not load it. If the Mods folder does not exist yet, the game creates it the first time you launch with mods enabled, and you can also create it yourself with that exact name. - 4
Switch on mods and script mods
Start The Sims 4, open Game Options > Other, tick Enable Custom Content and Mods, then tick Script Mods Allowed, and apply.
UI Cheats is a script mod. Without the second toggle the menus can still appear and nothing you type will take effect.
- 5
Quit the game and start it again
Quit The Sims 4 with Command+Q rather than leaving it running in the background, then launch it again. The Script Mods Allowed setting only takes effect after a restart.
- 6
Confirm the mod loaded
Load a save and right-click the notebook icon next to the phone icon: the installed version appears. You can also type
ui_cheats.mod_versionin the cheat console in Live mode.In the Mods menu, the package file is listed under Custom Content and the script file under Script Mods. A quick practical test is to right-click the household funds counter and see whether a dialog asks you for a number.

That is the whole procedure. If you want the same steps with the Windows paths, the OneDrive warning and a longer section on updating after a patch, read the main installation guide.
Opening the cheat console on a Mac
You do not need the console to use UI Cheats. You do need it for the version check, and for any cheat the mod does not cover.
Which keys open it on a Mac is genuinely unsettled. EA's own cheat FAQ gives Control+Shift+C for "your PC or Mac", while SnootySims and Sims Community both give Command+Shift+C. Players report both working. Try Control+Shift+C first; if no text bar appears in the top-left corner, try Command+Shift+C.
Once the bar is open, ui_cheats.mod_version reports the installed version of the mod, and testingcheats true switches on the cheats that are not always available. UI Cheats itself has not needed testingcheats since v1.1 in 2015.
For the full console walkthrough, including what testingcheats changes, see how to enable cheats in The Sims 4.
Quarantine and other claims we cannot confirm
Some Mac guides tell you to clear a quarantine attribute, adjust Gatekeeper, or run a Terminal command against your Mods folder before mods will load. We could not source any of that for this mod.
What the sources do say is that the Mac process is identical to the Windows one, and no page we could read describes a Mac-specific permission problem with UI Cheats. Neither of the two files is an application you launch; the game reads them itself.
So this page will not give you a Terminal command. If you find one elsewhere, treat it as unconfirmed, and do not run something against your own Documents folder because a guide told you to. Work through the sourced causes below first, because they explain nearly every report of the mod not loading.
When the mod will not load on a Mac
The causes are the same as on Windows, and they are worth checking in this order. weerbesu's own diagnosis is that missing interface, glitched panels and freezing menus are "always" a mismatch between the game version and the mod version, so start there.
- Version mismatch. Update the game fully, then install the current mod release. Check what you have with
ui_cheats.mod_version. - A dialog opens but the value does nothing. Your package file loaded and your script file did not. Check the script file is present and no more than one subfolder deep.
- The zip was never expanded. A zip sitting in the Mods folder does nothing. Expand it and move the two files.
- Script Mods Allowed is off, or was switched on without restarting. Turn it on in Game Options, apply, quit the game and reopen it.
- More than one copy installed. Keep exactly one. Delete old versions and renamed duplicates instead of moving them into another folder, because they still load.
- Another interface mod. UI Cheats only conflicts with mods that override the same interface resources; when two do, the game reads the first and ignores the second. Test UI Cheats on its own, then add other interface mods back one at a time.
- Stale cache after an update. Deleting
localthumbcache.packagefrom/Users/<YourUsername>/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/and letting the game rebuild it is a common fix for glitched interface after an update.
One documented folder problem is Windows-only: Documents folders redirected into OneDrive, where the game ignores the Mods folder and deleted files come back. We found no equivalent report for iCloud Drive on a Mac, which makes it an unknown rather than a known fix.
Reinstalling The Sims 4 is not a proportionate fix for a mod that consists of two files in one folder, whatever else you read. The longer, ordered version of this list is on the UI Cheats troubleshooting page.
Legacy Edition and older Macs
The Sims 4 Legacy Edition is the build for 32-bit PCs and for Macs without Metal support. It gets a different, much older copy of the mod: weerbesu links Legacy Edition players to UI Cheats Extension v1.15.1 on Mod The Sims.
That listing reports game version 1.58.63 and was last updated on 17 August 2022, so it has none of the features added to the main line since. It has still been downloaded more than 3.1 million times, which is a fair measure of how many people the mod has helped over the years.
If you are playing the current version of The Sims 4 on a modern Mac, this is not your download. Take v1.59.1 from the Patreon post like everyone else.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Mac install different from the Windows one?
No. Same zip, same two files, same Game Options toggles, same restart. Only the way the folder path is written changes, because macOS uses forward slashes and puts your Documents folder under /Users/.
Where is the Sims 4 Mods folder on a Mac?
/Users/<YourUsername>/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods. The quickest way there is Finder, then Go > Go to Folder, then ~/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods.
Is the cheat console Control+Shift+C or Command+Shift+C on a Mac?
Both are reported. EA’s own cheat FAQ gives Control+Shift+C for PC and Mac, while SnootySims and Sims Community give Command+Shift+C. Try Control+Shift+C first and fall back to Command+Shift+C.
Is there a separate Mac download?
No. The Patreon post carries one attachment and it is the same file for Windows and macOS. Anything advertised as a "Mac version" of UI Cheats is not the author’s.
Does it work with the Steam version on a Mac?
Yes. The Sims 4 reads mods from your Documents folder whichever launcher you use. Do not put mod files inside the Steam install directory.
Do I need to clear a quarantine flag or change permissions?
No source we could check documents a quarantine or permissions step for these files, and several guides state the Mac process is identical to Windows. Treat advice that tells you to run Terminal commands on your Mods folder as unconfirmed.
I play the Legacy Edition on an old Mac. Is there a build for me?
Yes, but it is frozen in time. weerbesu points Legacy Edition players at v1.15.1 on Mod The Sims, which was last updated in August 2022 and has none of the features added since.
