Sims 4 trait cheats

Open the console with Ctrl + Shift + C on a Windows PC. On a Mac, try that first and then Command + Shift + C, because EA's FAQ and the community guides disagree about which one applies. On PlayStation, hold R1, R2, L1 and L2. On Xbox, hold RB, RT, LB and LT.

Then type testingcheats trueCopy and press Enter. Trait commands are in the group EA gates behind that switch, along with every shift-click menu, which is what Modify in CAS depends on.

The three traits you pick when you make a Sim are the ones most people come looking for, and they are the ones the console handles worst. PC Gamer says so outright: the trait tables in guides exist mainly for traits you cannot pick in Create a Sim in the first place.

Do it this way instead:

1. In Live mode, type cas.fulleditmodeCopy and press Enter.
2. Nothing appears to happen. The console gives no confirmation for this cheat, which is normal.
3. Shift-click the Sim you want to change and choose Modify in CAS.
4. Every field is now editable: name, age, gender, body, the three personality traits, the aspiration, walk style and occult status.

A few personality traits do have documented codes, mostly recent ones. These work with traits.equip_trait like any other.

Reward traits are normally bought with satisfaction points, which a Sim earns by completing aspiration milestones. traits.equip_trait skips the store and the points entirely. If you would rather keep the store and just fill the wallet, that command is on the aspiration cheats page.

The commands are identical on all four platforms. What differs is how you reach the console and what using it costs.

On PlayStation and Xbox you open the console by holding all four shoulder buttons and type with the on-screen keyboard. Shift-click, which Modify in CAS needs, is holding Circle and pressing X on PlayStation, or holding B and pressing A on Xbox.

Console players have no mods. The Sims 4 on PlayStation and Xbox does not load script mods, so the typed command is the only way to change a trait there. The detail is on whether UI Cheats works on console.

On PlayStation and Xbox, any cheat that needs testingcheats trueCopy turns off achievements and trophies in that save, and every trait cheat needs it.

The penalty applies to that save only, so other saves keep earning normally. Build mode cheats are the documented exception: EA says plainly that those do not disable achievements.

On PC and Mac, the UI Cheats Extension moves the whole trait list into the Simology panel. It is a free script mod by weerbesu, and trait add and remove cheats have been part of it since version 1.25.

In the Simology panel:

• Right-click the green Traits title bar to add one or more traits. Since version 1.54 the same menu covers Formative Moments.
• Right-click an individual trait to remove it.
• Right-click the green Lifestyles title bar to add lifestyles, or a lifestyle to remove one, with Snowy Escape installed.
• Right-click a character value meter to set it anywhere from -100 to 100, with Parenthood installed.

Two limits are worth knowing. The three personality traits still go through cas.fulleditmode and Modify in CAS, and the age cheat in the same panel adds or subtracts days at the current age stage rather than switching a Sim to another life stage. Killing a Sim or setting a death type is not a documented feature of the mod at all, so that stays with the age and death cheats. The mod does add one Create a Sim shortcut of its own: right-clicking the confirm button randomises names, traits and aspirations, which is handy for throwing together a test Sim.

Work through these in order.

1. Enter testingcheats trueCopy again. It does not survive loading a different save.
2. Check the internal name character for character, including underscores. A name copied from a guide that printed it with a space in the middle cannot work, because the space ends the argument.
3. Check that you own the pack in the Notes column. A pack trait does nothing without the pack.
4. If the trait comes from a set that only one guide records, try the alternative spelling given in the notes before assuming the command is broken.
5. If the console will not open or refuses every command, the problem is not the trait. Go to the fixes for Sims 4 cheats not working.
