Sims 4 needs cheats
Updated 11 needs cheats
Switch cheats on with testingcheats true, then type sims.fill_all_commodities to fill every need on the Sim you are playing. For a single motive, use fillmotive motive_hunger and swap the last word.
To stop needs dropping at all, hold Shift, click the Sim, and pick Cheat need followed by Disable need decay. That is the part no typed command covers.
Turn cheats on first
Unlike the money cheats, none of this works until the master switch is on. Open the cheat console with Ctrl + Shift + C on Windows, or with all four shoulder buttons held together on Xbox and PlayStation. Type testingcheats true, press Enter, and the game confirms that cheats are enabled.
That setting sticks to the save you are playing, so you do it once per session rather than once per command. If you have never used the console before, how to enable cheats in The Sims 4 has the keys for every platform and what the switch turns on.
Every needs cheat
The typed commands, grouped by how much of the household they touch.
Fill one need at a time
Each of these tops up a single motive on the Sim you have selected. The motive name is part of the command, so the spelling matters.

|---|---|---|---|
Commandfillmotive motive_hunger | What it doesFills Hunger. | NotesNeeds testingcheats true. | |
Commandfillmotive motive_energy | What it doesFills Energy. | NotesNeeds testingcheats true. | |
Commandfillmotive motive_bladder | What it doesFills Bladder. | NotesNeeds testingcheats true. | |
Commandfillmotive motive_hygiene | What it doesFills Hygiene. | NotesNeeds testingcheats true. | |
Commandfillmotive motive_fun | What it doesFills Fun. | NotesNeeds testingcheats true. | |
Commandfillmotive motive_social | What it doesFills Social. | NotesNeeds testingcheats true. | |
Commandfillmotive motive_toddler_attention | What it doesFills a toddler's Attention need, which is the toddler version of Social. | NotesNeeds testingcheats true. Toddlers only. It does nothing on an older Sim. |
Fill everything at once
One command for the Sim you are playing, and one for everyone living in the house.
| Command | What it does | Notes | Copy |
|---|---|---|---|
Commandsims.fill_all_commodities | What it doesFills every need on the active Sim. | NotesNeeds testingcheats true. EA describes it as filling the needs of the active Sim. One guide says it covers the whole household instead; if you want the household, use the command below. | |
Commandstats.fill_commodities_household | What it doesFills every need for every Sim in the current household. | NotesNeeds testingcheats true. This is the spelling most guides use. Try it first. | |
Commandstats.fill_all_commodities_household | What it doesThe same thing, spelled the way EA spells it. | NotesNeeds testingcheats true. Use this if the shorter name comes back as an unknown command. The two names do the same job. |
Fix the mood as well
Filling needs raises a mood but does not clear whatever is already sitting on the Sim.
| Command | What it does | Notes | Copy |
|---|---|---|---|
Commandsims.remove_all_buffs | What it doesClears every moodlet and returns the Sim to a neutral mood. | NotesNeeds testingcheats true. Good for shifting a stubborn Sad or Embarrassed moodlet that a full needs bar will not budge. It clears the pleasant moodlets too. |

The motive names
Every fillmotive command is the word fillmotive, a space, then the internal name of the need. The internal names are the six you can see in the needs panel, each prefixed with motive_: hunger, energy, bladder, hygiene, fun and social.
Three things go wrong with them. The first is the prefix, which people drop. fillmotive hunger does nothing; the command needs motive_hunger. The second is the Sim: the command affects whichever Sim is currently selected, so click the portrait of the Sim you mean before you open the console. The third is scope, because fillmotive does one need on one Sim. Filling a household of five means the household command, not thirty separate lines.
Toddlers have a seventh name. Their Attention need sits where Social does for everyone else, and it is motive_toddler_attention.
Freeze needs so they stop dropping
Filling needs is a repair job. Freezing them is the actual fix, and it lives in the shift-click menu rather than in a command. Hold Shift and click a Sim, and a cheat menu opens with the options below.
| Shift-click on | Menu option | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| A Sim | Cheat need > Make happy | Fills every motive and sets the mood to Happy. |
| A Sim | Cheat need > Disable need decay | Freezes that Sim’s needs exactly where they are, whether they are full or empty. |
| A Sim | Cheat need > Enable need decay | Puts normal decay back. |
| The mailbox | Alter needs | Applies a needs change to the whole household or the whole world, including switching decay off. |
Disable need decay freezes the needs where they currently sit. It does not fill them first, so a Sim frozen at the wrong moment stays exhausted and filthy until you switch decay back on. Run Make happy, or fill the needs with a command, and freeze after that.
Make happy is worth knowing for another reason: it sets the mood as well as the motives. A Sim with full needs and a Sad moodlet is still sad, because moods come from moodlets rather than from the bars. If a stubborn moodlet is the problem, sims.remove_all_buffs clears the lot, pleasant ones included.
The whole household, or the whole world
For everybody living in the house, use stats.fill_commodities_household. This is the spelling community guides settled on. EA's own FAQ writes it as stats.fill_all_commodities_household, so if the shorter one comes back as an unknown command, type the longer one. They do the same job.
Wider than that, shift-click the mailbox and choose Alter needs. From there you can apply a needs change to the entire household or to every Sim in the world, and switch decay off at the same scale. It is the setting to reach for in a building or storytelling save where you do not want anybody dying of hunger while your attention is elsewhere.
One caution about sims.fill_all_commodities: EA describes it as filling the needs of the active Sim, while PC Gamer describes it as covering the whole household. EA's wording is the one this page follows, and the household command above is the reliable way to get the household behaviour.
Toddlers, mermaids and pets
Toddlers use the six standard motives plus motive_toddler_attention in place of Social, and the household fill covers them like anyone else.
Mermaids swap Hygiene for Hydration. sims.fill_all_commodities tops Hydration up along with everything else, and no separate fillmotive name for it is documented, so the all-needs command is the one to use on a mermaid.
Cats, dogs and horses are the gap. Motive names for pets are quoted in various places, but none could be confirmed against two independent sources, so this page leaves them out rather than printing a command that may not exist. Fill the household instead, or shift-click the animal and use its own cheat menu.
Xbox and PlayStation
The commands are identical on console. Hold all four shoulder buttons to open the cheat console, type the cheat with the on-screen keyboard, and press Enter.
Shift-click has a controller equivalent. On PlayStation, hold Circle and press X. On Xbox, hold B and press A. That opens the same cheat menu, so Make happy and Disable need decay are available to console players too.
Needs cheats and achievements
Everything on this page needs testingcheats true, and on PlayStation and Xbox that disables Achievements and Trophies for the save you are in. Other saves keep their progress.
There is no command to switch them back on for that save. If you are chasing trophies, keep a second save for the cheating and leave the first one alone.
The same thing in one click
UI Cheats Extension, the free script mod by weerbesu, makes the needs panel itself editable, and needs are the feature it is best known for.
Left-click anywhere along a need bar and that need jumps to the point you clicked, so leaving a Sim deliberately hungry while you top up the rest takes one click per bar. Right-click the same bar and you type an exact value from -100 to 100. Right-click the icon that opens the Needs panel and every need on the selected Sim fills at once.
The same panel handles occult progress where the pack is installed: right-click a vampire, spellcaster or werewolf experience bar to pick a rank, right-click the Power point or Talent point counter to set it, and right-click a spellcaster curse or a werewolf temperament to remove it.
What the mod does not do is freeze decay. No decay toggle appears in the author's feature list, so shift-click and Disable need decay stay the way to do that. Moodlets are covered, though, by right-clicking one in the moodlet area to remove it.
Everything UI Cheats can change in one click goes panel by panel. The mod is Windows and Mac only, needs Script Mods Allowed switched on, and has to match your game version.
When a needs cheat does nothing
Work through these in order.
- Cheats are off. Type
testingcheats trueand watch for the confirmation before anything else. - The motive name is missing its prefix. It is
motive_hunger, nothunger. - The wrong Sim is selected.
fillmotiveandsims.fill_all_commoditiesboth act on the active Sim, so click the portrait you mean first. - The household command was rejected. Try EA's longer spelling,
stats.fill_all_commodities_household. - Cheat need is missing from the shift-click menu. That menu only exists once cheats are enabled, which takes you back to the first item.
If the console will not open at all, or every command is rejected, the problem is bigger than this page. Sims 4 cheats not working works through it in order.
Frequently asked questions
How do you fill all needs in The Sims 4?
Turn cheats on with testingcheats true, then type sims.fill_all_commodities. Every need on the Sim you have selected goes to full. For the whole household, use stats.fill_commodities_household instead.
What is the cheat to make a Sim happy?
There is no typed command for it. With cheats on, hold Shift and click the Sim, then choose Cheat need followed by Make happy. That fills every motive and sets the mood to Happy in one action.
How do you stop needs from dropping?
Shift-click the Sim, choose Cheat need, then Disable need decay. Their needs stay at the level they are on until you choose Enable need decay again. It freezes low needs as readily as high ones, so fill them first.
Can you fill only one need?
Yes. fillmotive motive_hunger fills Hunger and leaves everything else alone. Swap the last word for energy, bladder, hygiene, fun or social.
Do needs cheats work on toddlers?
The six standard motives work as usual. Toddlers also have an Attention need in place of Social, which is fillmotive motive_toddler_attention. On an older Sim that command does nothing.
Is there a needs cheat for pets?
No pet motive names could be confirmed against two independent sources, so this page does not list any. Fill the whole household with stats.fill_commodities_household, or shift-click the animal and use the menu instead.
What fills a mermaid’s Hydration need?
Mermaids have Hydration in place of Hygiene. sims.fill_all_commodities fills it along with everything else. There is no documented fillmotive name for Hydration on its own.
Do needs cheats need testingcheats true?
Yes. EA lists only the money cheats and the Build mode cheats as working without it, so switch cheats on before you try any of the commands on this page.
