Is UI Cheats safe to download?
Updated Checked against UI Cheats v1.59.1
The copy on weerbesu's Patreon post is the one to trust. It has been published in the open since 2019, maintained since June 2015, and nothing in the sources we checked reports it damaging a game or a computer. The risk with this mod is not the mod. It is the copies of it that circulate on other sites, which nobody has checked and which are often several versions out of date.

The short answer
UI Cheats is one of the most widely used mods The Sims 4 has. The Patreon post carries 19,393 likes and 3,677 comments, and weerbesu's Patreon has 86,551 members. The Legacy Edition build on Mod The Sims, which is only a side branch of the project, has been downloaded 3,158,516 times on its own. Those numbers were read on 22 September 2026.
That is not proof of anything on its own, but a broken or malicious official build would not stay quiet for long in front of an audience that size, commenting freely under the post. Eleven years of releases and more than seventy versions have gone by, and no source we checked reports anything of the sort.
So the safety question is really a sourcing question, and it has a one-line answer: get the file from the official download page and the rest of this page is precaution rather than warning.

What the two files actually do
The zip holds two files. One is a package file, which is the kind of file most custom content uses: it is read by the game and it changes what the interface shows you. That half is what puts a cheat dialog on screen when you right-click a panel.
The other is a .ts4script file. That makes UI Cheats a script mod, and it is the half that takes the number you typed and applies it to your Sim. The Sims 4 does not load script mods unless you switch Script Mods Allowed on yourself in Game Options, which is the game asking you to decide whether you trust the source. It is also why the mod cannot run on Xbox or PlayStation, where script mods are not supported at all.
The two file names given in most guides are UI_Cheats_Extension.package and UI_Cheats_Extension_Scripts.ts4script. Those names come from third-party sites rather than from the author, whose post says only "the package file and the script file", so what matters is that you end up with one of each and nothing else.
There is a useful side effect of the split. If a cheat dialog opens but typing a value does nothing, the package file loaded and the script file did not. That is the author's own diagnosis, and it points at folder depth or at the Script Mods setting rather than at anything being wrong with the download.
Why Patreon is the only source to trust
weerbesu publishes the current build as an attachment on one Patreon post and lists the release history on his own changelog site. Those are the only two addresses connected to him that we have been able to verify, and neither of them is a mirror of the other.
We link to that post and we do not host the file. Three reasons, in order of how much they matter to you. A mirror goes stale, and the author's own troubleshooting says a mismatch between game version and mod version is always the cause of broken panels, so an old mirror is the problem rather than a convenience. Nobody has permission to redistribute the mod: there is no licence, terms of use or redistribution statement on the Patreon post, on the changelog site or on the author's Mod The Sims profile. And the file is already free, so a mirror adds nothing except a place for something else to be swapped in.
One thing to watch for while reading other sites: some of them claim to quote the author's rules about re-uploading. We looked for a policy in all three of those places and found none. A page quoting terms that do not exist is not a page to take a download from.
How to spot a reuploaded copy
Most reuploads do not take much effort to spot once you know what the genuine download looks like. Five things are worth checking before you click anything.
| Check | Genuine | Walk away |
|---|---|---|
| Where it lives | patreon.com, creator weerbesu, post id 26240068. The Legacy Edition build on Mod The Sims is the one exception, and the author links to it himself. | Any other domain, or a second Patreon account posting the same mod. |
| File name | UI_Cheats_Extension_v1.59.1.zip | A generic name, a name with a different version, or no name until you click. |
| File size | 14,902,899 bytes, shown as about 14.9 MB. | Wildly different. A 13.5 MB file is an older release rather than a fake, but it is not the current one. |
| File type | A plain zip with two game files inside. | An installer, an executable, a download manager, or a password-protected archive. |
| What it asks of you | Nothing. The post is public and the mod is free. | A payment, a survey, an account on an unrelated site, or a browser extension. |
There is also a check you can run after the fact. Once the files are in your Mods folder, right-click the notebook icon next to the phone icon in Live mode, or type ui_cheats.mod_version in the cheat console. If the version it reports is not the one you thought you downloaded, you have an older copy, whatever the page you got it from claimed.
If your antivirus flags the file
We are not going to tell you that a warning is always a false positive, because no source we have supports that claim for this file, and "ignore your antivirus" is bad advice to publish either way.
What to do instead is straightforward. Check that you downloaded from the Patreon post rather than from a mirror. Check the file name and the size against the figures above. If both match and your scanner still objects, do not add an exception to make the warning go away: report the detection to your antivirus vendor and leave the file alone until you have an answer. Nothing in a Sims mod is worth overriding a security tool for.
If the warning came from a copy you downloaded somewhere else, delete it and start again from the official post. That resolves far more of these than any exception list will.
What a mod can and cannot do to your game
A UI mod like this one replaces parts of the game's interface. The author is specific about the consequence: UI Cheats only conflicts with other mods that override the same interface resources, and it does not conflict with script mods or tuning mods as a category. When two UI mods do collide, the game reads the first one and ignores the second, so the second mod simply stops working. The author also says an unrelated game problem is unlikely to be caused by that kind of conflict.
The honest gaps are worth naming. No source we found documents what this mod does to achievements, or to save integrity over time. We are not going to fill those in with a confident guess, and a site that does is guessing too. The same goes for the figure you will see quoted that "90% of problems" come from a version mismatch: the underlying point is the author's, the number is invented.
One thing we can rule out. Reinstalling The Sims 4 is not a proportionate fix for anything this mod does, and several guides suggest it anyway. Removing the two files takes seconds and undoes the mod completely.
Backing up before you install anything
This is ordinary caution rather than a warning about UI Cheats specifically. Before you add any mod, copy the whole The Sims 4 folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and put it somewhere else. That folder is where the game keeps your data, including your saves and your Mods folder, so a copy of it is a copy of everything you would mind losing.
Do it again before a big game patch, since that is when mods break and when people start deleting files to find out which one caused it. A backup turns that from a gamble into a five-minute test.
If the game breaks after you install it
Almost all of it comes back to versions. The author's line is that missing interface, glitched text on panels and frozen menus are always caused by a mismatch between your game version and your mod version. Update The Sims 4 fully, then install the current mod build, and the symptoms usually go with it.
If the game runs but the mod does not, the quick checks are: exactly one copy of the mod in the Mods folder with no renamed backups, the script file no more than one subfolder deep, Script Mods Allowed switched on with a full restart afterwards, and no other interface mod competing with it. Deleting localthumbcache.package from the Sims 4 folder clears a stale interface after an update.
The full sequence, in the order that solves the most cases first, is on the page for UI Cheats when it stops working. If you have not installed it yet, the step-by-step is on the installation guide.
Frequently asked questions
Is UI Cheats a virus?
The file attached to weerbesu's Patreon post is the mod, and nothing in the sources we checked reports it harming a game or a computer. It has been published on that one post since 2019 and maintained since June 2015, in public, with thousands of comments under it. Copies hosted elsewhere are a different matter, because nobody can tell you what is inside them.
Do I have to turn off my antivirus to install it?
No, and treat any guide that tells you to as a warning sign. The download is a zip with two game files in it. Nothing in the process asks you to run a program or lower a security setting on your computer.
Will UI Cheats corrupt my save?
No source we found documents this mod damaging a save, and we are not going to guess either way. Copying your Sims 4 folder out of Documents before you add any mod takes a minute and covers you if something else goes wrong.
Is the Mod The Sims download safe?
Yes, in the sense that weerbesu links to it himself. It is a separate Legacy Edition build, v1.15.1, last updated in 2022. It is the right file only if you actually play Legacy Edition.
Can UI Cheats get my account banned?
We have found no source, from EA or anyone else, that addresses this for UI Cheats specifically, so there is nothing here we can honestly tell you beyond that. What we can say is that UI Cheats is a local file in your own Mods folder, the same as every other Sims 4 mod.
Is it safe to keep the mod through a game patch?
Expect it to break the interface until the mod is updated. The author says a mismatch between your game version and your mod version is always the cause of missing panels, glitched text and frozen menus. That is a fixable problem, not a damaged game: update the game, then install the newest mod build.
Does it work on Xbox or PlayStation?
No. Consoles do not load script mods of any kind, and half of this download is a script file. Any site offering you a console version of UI Cheats is not offering you UI Cheats.
