Sims 4 UI Cheats

How to Install UI Cheats in The Sims 4

Updated Checked against UI Cheats v1.59.1About 5 minutes

Installing the UI Cheats Extension takes about five minutes. Download one zip from weerbesu's Patreon post, extract it, put both files in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods, switch on Enable Custom Content and Mods and Script Mods Allowed in Game Options, then restart the game.

The steps are the same on Windows and on a Mac, and the same whether you bought The Sims 4 through the EA app or Steam, because the game always reads mods from your Documents folder rather than from the folder it is installed in.

Before you start

Three things decide whether this works on the first try, and all three are worth two minutes now rather than an hour later.

Patch the game first. weerbesu says of the current line that it "is built with game version 1.127.41 and it will not work for older versions of the game". Let the EA app or Steam finish updating before you install anything.

Get the current build. v1.59.1 was released on 27 August 2026. If you are holding an older zip from a previous patch cycle, throw it away and get the current version first.

Expect to use both files. The zip contains a package file and a script file, and the mod needs both. No expansion packs are required; the base game is enough.

Where the Mods folder lives

The Mods folder sits in your user Documents folder on both platforms. It has nothing to do with where the game itself is installed.

The Sims 4 Mods folder, by platform
PlatformPath
WindowsC:\Users\<YourUsername>\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Mods
macOS/Users/<YourUsername>/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods

If the Mods folder is not there, the game creates it the first time you launch with mods enabled, and you can also just make it yourself with that exact name.

Steam players: do not put anything in SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\The Sims 4\Mods. Files in the install directory are ignored.

One Windows-only trap is worth knowing about. If your Documents folder has been redirected into OneDrive, the game can end up ignoring the Mods folder entirely, and OneDrive has also been reported restoring mod files you deleted. Moving the Electronic Arts folder back to a local drive, or excluding The Sims 4 folders from sync, fixes it.

Install UI Cheats in six steps

  1. 1

Download the zip from the official Patreon post

Open weerbesu's post, UI Cheats Extension v1.59.1 on Patreon, and scroll to the attachment at the bottom. The file is UI_Cheats_Extension_v1.59.1.zip and it is about 15 MB. The post is public and carries no pledge tier, so the download is free.

This is the only link this site gives you. Copies on file hosts and mod aggregators are not the author's, and a stale copy is the one thing guaranteed to break your interface.

  2. 2

    Extract the zip

Unzip the archive before you go near the Mods folder. The game reads loose files, not zips, so a zip dropped into Mods does nothing at all.

Inside you get two files: a package file and a script file. Guides that have opened the archive name them UI_Cheats_Extension.package and UI_Cheats_Extension_Scripts.ts4script. The author's own post calls them only "the package file and the script file", so treat the exact names as likely rather than certain.

  3. 3

Put both files in your Mods folder

Move both files into Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods. A single subfolder is fine and keeps the folder readable, for example Mods > UI Cheats Extension. The script file has to sit no more than one subfolder deep, or the game will not load it.

Both files have to be there. With only the package file installed, the cheat dialogs open and then nothing happens when you type a value.

  4. 4

Switch on mods and script mods

Start the game and open Game Options > Other. Tick Enable Custom Content and Mods, then tick Script Mods Allowed. Apply the settings.

Script Mods Allowed is the one people forget. UI Cheats is a script mod, so without it the package file loads, the menus appear, and none of the values you type take effect.

  5. 5

    Restart the game completely

Close The Sims 4 and start it again. The Script Mods Allowed setting only takes effect after a restart, which is why a correctly installed mod can still look dead until you do this.

  6. 6

    Check that UI Cheats loaded

Load a save and right-click the notebook icon next to the phone icon. The installed version appears. You can also open the cheat console in Live mode and type ui_cheats.mod_version.

In the game's Mods menu, the package file is listed under Custom Content and the script file under Script Mods. If only one of them is listed, go back to step 3.

How to confirm the mod loaded

There are three checks, and they fail in different ways, which is what makes them useful together.

The version check. Right-click the notebook icon next to the phone icon in Live mode and the installed version appears. The same answer comes from typing ui_cheats.mod_version in the cheat console while you are in Live mode. If either one answers, the script file is loading.

The Mods menu. Installed correctly, the package file is listed under Custom Content and the script file under Script Mods. One entry without the other tells you which file is in the wrong place.

The smoke test. Load a save and right-click the household funds counter at the top of the screen. A dialog should ask you for a number. Type one and the funds change.

Once it answers, the mod is running and everything it can change is available by clicking the interface. The reference to what to click once it is installed goes through it panel by panel.

After every game patch

The Sims 4 patches break UI Cheats regularly, and the mod is updated to match within days. weerbesu is blunt about the cause: missing interface, graphical or textual glitches on panels and freezing menus are "always" a mismatch between your game version and your mod version.

Work in this order after a patch lands.

  1. Let the game finish updating before you launch it.
  2. Check the mod version you have with ui_cheats.mod_version or the notebook icon, and compare it with the current release shown at the top of this page.
  3. If they differ, download the new zip and extract it, then delete the old package and script files before you copy the new ones in.
  4. Keep exactly one copy. Renamed backups and "old" folders still load, and two copies of the same mod is its own failure mode.
  5. Restart the game and run the version check again.

Script Mods Allowed usually survives an update, but it costs nothing to look at Game Options while you are there. The version history lists every release with the game version it was built for, which is the fastest way to tell whether an update is even out yet.

If it did not work

Match what you are seeing to the cause before you change anything.

  • No menu at all when you right-click. Neither file loaded, or mods are switched off. Re-check both Game Options toggles and restart.
  • The dialog opens, typing a value does nothing. The script file is not loading. Check it is present, and no more than one subfolder deep.
  • Panels are glitched, blank or frozen. Version mismatch. Update the game, then the mod.
  • Nothing changed at all. Check you extracted the zip rather than copying the archive itself into Mods.
  • It worked, then stopped after you added another mod. UI Cheats only conflicts with other mods that override the same interface resources. Remove other UI mods, test on its own, then add them back one at a time.

The longer diagnostic, in the order that actually resolves things, is on the page for if the mod does not load. Reinstalling The Sims 4 is never the answer here, whatever else you read.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to pay or pledge on Patreon to get UI Cheats?

No. The release post is a public post with no pledge tier attached, and the zip hangs off the bottom of it. The mod has been free since it was first released in June 2015.

Do I need any expansion packs?

No. The mod works on the base game. Panels that belong to a pack, such as the university or werewolf panels, only appear if you own that pack.

Does the Steam version install differently?

No. The Sims 4 reads mods from the Documents folder no matter which launcher you use, so the EA app and Steam both use the same Mods folder. Never put mod files in the Steam install directory; the game will not read them there.

Do I need testingcheats true for UI Cheats to work?

No. The mod dropped that requirement in v1.1, back in 2015. You still need testingcheats true for shift-click menus and for most typed commands, but not for the mod's own click menus.

Can I keep my old version installed as a backup?

No. weerbesu asks for exactly one copy of the mod in the Mods folder. Delete older versions and any renamed duplicates rather than moving them aside, because a renamed copy still loads.

Do I need a Resource.cfg file in my Mods folder?

Not by hand. Current versions of the game handle mod discovery themselves and regenerate the file if it goes missing. Community guidance is consistent on this, though there is no EA statement we could read directly.

Is the install different on a Mac?

No, the files and the steps are the same. Only the folder path is written differently. There is a full walkthrough on the Mac install page.
