On Windows, press Ctrl + Shift + C. A text bar appears in the top left corner of the screen. Type the cheat, press Enter, then press Ctrl + Shift + C again or press Esc to close the bar.

On a Mac the answer depends on which guide you read. EA's own cheats FAQ gives Ctrl + Shift + C for PC and Mac alike, while SnootySims and Sims Community both give Command + Shift + C. Both combinations work on most Mac keyboards, so try one and fall back to the other.

On PlayStation, hold R1, R2, L1 and L2 together. On Xbox, hold RB, RT, LB and LT together. Pressing all four again closes the console, and so does Esc.

What you do not have to do is switch cheats on. EA lists the money cheats and the Build mode cheats as available whether or not the master switch is set. Everything else in the game, from skills to relationships to the shift-click menus, needs you to turn on testingcheats first.

The money command is the one most players miss. It sets household funds to the number you type rather than adding to them, which makes it the only way to land on a specific figure without arithmetic.

Type the number on its own, with no comma, no decimal point and no § sign. EA's documentation uses money 145897Copy as the example, and it leaves the household with 145,897 Simoleons exactly.

Because it sets rather than adds, it also works downwards. A household sitting on 80,000 that types money 500 is left with 500. That is handy for a challenge save where you want a specific starting balance, and it is the reason to check the number before you press Enter.

One guide describes money as adding to your funds instead of replacing them. EA's cheats FAQ is explicit that it sets the total, and that is the wording this page follows.

There is also sims.modify_funds, which players use to add or subtract an amount without touching the rest of the balance. It is widely repeated in community posts, but it does not appear in EA's FAQ or in the major guides checked for this page, so treat it as unconfirmed. If nothing happens when you run it, fall back to money.

Money in the bank is one problem, and the price of the house is another. FreeRealEstate onCopy makes every residential lot in the world cost §0, so your household can move into the most expensive property on the map without paying for it.

There is one rule that catches almost everyone: you have to type it from the world map, the view where you can see the whole neighbourhood and pick a lot. Entering it while you are standing on a lot does nothing at all. Open the console from the map, type the cheat, then click the house you want.

FreeRealEstate off puts the prices back when you are done.

household.autopay_bills trueCopy pays your household's bills automatically, so they stop turning up in the mailbox and nobody gets their power cut off while you are playing someone else. household.autopay_bills false restores normal billing.

This is the quieter alternative to keeping a huge balance. If you like the routine of a household that has to earn its money but you do not want to babysit the mail, switch autopay on and leave the funds alone.

Every command on this page is typed the same way on console as it is on a computer. Hold all four shoulder buttons to bring up the console, use the on-screen keyboard to type the cheat, and press Enter.

Console players have no access to mods of any kind, so the clicking approach further down this page is not an option there. The typed commands are the whole toolkit, which is also why they are worth learning properly. There is more on that in console support for UI Cheats.

On PlayStation and Xbox, any cheat that requires testingcheats true disables Achievements and Trophies for the save you are playing. Other saves are not affected, so a cheat save and a clean save can live side by side.

Money cheats do not require the master switch, which puts them outside that rule. EA states the exemption explicitly for Build mode cheats rather than for money, so that is the only part of it you can point at in writing. If trophies matter to you, keep a separate save for cheating and do the honest run in another one.

UI Cheats Extension is a free script mod by weerbesu that turns the game's own panels into controls. The money counter in the top left of Live mode is one of them, and it removes the console from this job entirely.

Left-click the money counter and the household gains §1,000, which is kaching without the typing. Right-click it and you type the exact balance you want, which is money without the typing. The same right-click also sets Galactic Credits, bits and pieces, so the Journey to Batuu and Eco Lifestyle currencies are covered by the same control.

The mod runs on Windows and Mac only, needs Script Mods Allowed switched on in Game Options, and has to match your game version. Everything UI Cheats can change in one click lists the other panels it touches, and the install guide covers the setup.

Four causes account for nearly all of it. Work through them in this order.

1. The console never opened. Look for the text bar in the top left corner before you start typing, because keystrokes with no console go to the game as shortcuts.
2. You typed FreeRealEstate on while standing on a lot. Go out to the world map and try again.
3. You expected money 5000 to add 5,000. It sets the balance to 5,000 instead. Check what the counter said before you ran it.
4. You used sims.modify_funds, which is not in EA's documentation. Use money or motherlode instead.
